Asus is currently running a promotion in the US and Canada, whereby if you pre-order the Eee PC 1008HA Seashell netbook you will receive a $20 discount. This means that you can pick up the 1008HA Seashell for the discounted price of $409.99 in the US or CAD$509.99 in Canada.
Having a look at a few US retailers, pre-orders at most of the major sites seem to be open. Amazon has both the black and white versions on pre-order at the discounted price of $409.99. Newegg only has the white version on pre-order but at the normal price of $429.29. However, ZipZoomFly has the cheapest pre-order price I’ve seen at $399.99. According to Engadget, Asus expects retailers to deliver the white Seashell by the 27th May with the black version following a day later. Check out a screen grab of the promotion after the break.

Just picked one up and found out that IT DOESN”T RUN Windows 7 due to Video issues. I had such a great experience with an Acer Aspire One netbook that I though I would upgrade to a slimmer netbook. But after bringing it home last night I found out that there are issues with it going to a black screen when poweing on OR hibernating…There are some clunky workarounds (Batch file OR possibly modified bios) that work for some..
I know it’s not a “Supported OS” but it seems strange that Windows 7 runs well on so may netbooks but there are a handful of EEEs (1000HE, 902, 1008HA, perhaps others) that have this problem even though most of the hardware inside all the Atom netbooks is the same.
Anybody have a quick fix or idea if ASUS will address somenthing like this with a bios/driver update?
…Just so hard to go back to running XP after haveing such a good experience with Windows 7 on my Aspire One…

That’s a big concern – has any other 1008HA owners got it Windows 7 to work? Hopefully, Asus will address this problem in a firmware update.
