Asus’ dual-core ION Eee PC 1201N netbook hits Italian pre-order
November 4, 2009 at 3:43 pm
It looks like the monstrous Asus Eee PC 1201N netbook, armed with a dual-core CPU and ION chipset, may be hitting European retail pretty soon. The 12.1-inch netbook has just appeared on pre-order from an Italian retailer for €510. No release date was given but the specifications listed match what we’ve already heard.
The listing suggests the model will come with a 1.6GHz dual-core Atom 330 processor, 3GB RAM and a 320GB HDD. The display size is listed as 11.6-inches although we suspect this must be a typo, as the 1201 series is reported to come with a 12.1-inch (1366 x 768) display. Other features include Windows 7 Home Premium, 0.3MP webcam, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (b/g/n), HDMI and a 6-cell battery.
Via Netbook Italia.

The wait for this is killing me. I just want a definite US release date so I can look forward to a specific date and not just soon.
Soon enough… That’s not soon enough.

Would like 2 ghz and ion 2. I guess I have to wait a bit longer.

@ Steve
I’m with ya. As soon as this is available stateside, I’m purchasing one. The wait, however, is insane.
I’ve been patiently waiting for this (dual-core, 64-capable, decent gaming/HD rig) in a netbook since their release over a year ago. I didn’t realize I could be so patient.
But this.. knowing that it’s here, around the corner?
I feel like it’s Christmas Eve and I’m 10 years old. I’ve even got cookies and milk.

I’m keen for one of these. Though the recent discovery that ION LE could be hacked to run like full ION might make this model look expensive soon enough.
Does anyone have suggestions about a cheap Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse?

@ NacaYoda
If you’re in the UK, then check here for a cheap BT mouse. Ordered one m’self:

Why they dont use good web camera, when everything else sounds so good. 0.3Mpix sounds more like toy.

I don’t think that the hacking of ION LE is going to make a huge difference. The fact that I’m not getting Direct X 10 makes absolutely zero difference to me.
Nice to finally see a netbook that’s faster than the original Celeron powered models though.. might skip the mini 311 for this

Does the Atom dual core 330 support 64 bit windows 7 Premium i.e. not basic edition?
November 5th, 2009 5:58 PM
@ Cameron Tisdale
Yes, the Atom 330 supports x64.
I’ve been personally very interested to see what Asus ships with this Netbook in terms of an OS.

I would hope it’s out in time for christmas shopping (for myself)

Well Intel Atom2 and Ion2 are right here on the next corner so perhaps some more waiting won’t kill me.
