January 27, 2010 at 9:03 pm

Apple iPadApple has finally revealed the iPad, a 9.7-inch tablet device that will be powered by a custom 1GHz Apple A4 processor and a 10-hour battery life. As expected, the iPad certainly looks gorgeous, measuring half an inch in thickness and will come in various flash storage options from 16GB to 64GB.

It will run the iPhone OS with a new UI. Included is a new e-book reading app called iBooks with a wireless online store. The company has partnered with Penguin, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, MacMillan and Hachett Book Group.

It will begin shipping in a couple of month’s time with prices starting at $499 and the 3G-equipped model costing an extra $150. The 16GB model will set you back for $499, you’ll need to add an extra $100 for the 32GB model and $200 for the 64GB version. Two data plans will be offered ($14.99 for 250MB or $29.99 for unlimited data) through AT&T. UK details haven’t been announced but expect details to be finalised by early summer.

Interesting..Price isn’t exactly raping the consumer (which you would expect from apple usually)

Not keen on the data plans again though!

    Battery swappable?

The UI is impressive but no Adobe Flash Support. Practically speaking I wouldn’t know how one can hold it and leverage the same limbs to type on it unless I am in a rocking chair with loads of time on my hand with this device on my lap or I some how turn this into a scratch-proof mini coffee table top (that makes it multifunctional). This better not fall off your hand !! The normal netbook should suffice then, won’t it !!??

I think tablet forms are most useful as mini-internet tablet devices that double as smartphones – within the 4-5 inch max screen size – where one can easily hold & operate it with one hand.

As for reading newspapers, folks old n new will any day prefer a 4gm crunchy wrinkled crackler (printed paper) to a device that needs constant care (Health Care reforms aren’t gonna cover this device 😉 .. yes I have heard of insurance .. lol). Fyi, there’s a technology being developed in UK that’s going to enable ‘all of the above’ on a thin electronic foldbale sheet that comes very close to paper.

The ipad ain’t for me though .. am just gonna open my netbook, logon to skype n flip thru’ a paperback book .. lol
