Averatec N1200 reviewed – sexy netbook let down by endurance
March 20, 2010 at 9:46 am
The Averatec N1200 10.1-inch netbook has pretty standard specifications (N450 Atom, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD and Windows 7 Starter) but comes in an attractive chassis less than an inch thick weighing around 1kg (2.2lbs).
Laptop Mag has put the N1200 netbook through its paces and came back with mixed impressions. The design of the Averatec N1200 is one of the “best-looking netbooks yet” according to the reviewer, with its stylish aluminium lid. It also has a lightweight chassis and large touchpad that wins it brownie points.
However, it is let down by the performance from its 2-cell 3200mAh battery, lasting for 2 hours and 32 minutes according to their tests. This is 20 minutes shy of the 3-cell battery average and 4-hours below the 6-cell average. They recommend waiting for the 6-cell option in April (although I’m sure this will ruin the looks somewhat, sticking out of the netbook). Other negatives include an awkward keyboard and webcam that is poorly positioned. Click here for the full review.

I picked up an AVERATEC N1200 from Tiger Direct. It is everything I wanted for the price, except after three months the battery is completly dead! It will not charge and has nothing left in it. No problem I have a 1 year warranty! I contacted AVERATEC TRIGEN first by email and was told that the battery warranty was only good for three months!!! “we do sell original 2 cell battery for $89.99 and 4 cell battery for $109.99. Let me know which one you wanna order. Also, i will give you the shipping cost if you provide me with your address.”
Well I don’t wanna order anything for that cost plus shipping especially since it will only last for three months! I want AVERATEC TRIGEN to honour their written warranty that came with the product. It mentions nothing about the battery, let alone a three month warranty.
Since this response, I have called three time and now they just hang up, they no longer respond to my emails either.
Do not buy AVERATEC they don’t honour their warranty!
thank you,

This is really good looking laptop. But if batteries are really that bad, I will have to find alternative. Which other small laptop looks as good as this one?

I bought the N1200 last year for a discount price… only to have the battery completely die on me. I got warranty service (had to pay to ship the device to California), but the new battery died within 2 months.
As of today (29 November 2011) the Averatec / Trigem USA web site is closed and their phone disconnected. I strongly recommend AGAINST purchasing anything from this company.
Caveat emptor!

I bought one of these from Tiger. The AC adapter went bad and a representative from the company said that he’d send a replacement if I sent a money order for $55 or thereabouts. I’ve been trying to find an adapter but nobody carries one with the tiny tip it needs. I now have an attractive $200 paperweight. Don’t waste your money.
