Toshiba NB305 reviewed – smaller footprint and lower battery life
January 12, 2010 at 7:02 pm
The Toshiba NB305 is the 10-inch netbook follow-up to the well received NB205 (NB200 in the UK). According to Toshiba, one of the biggest criticisms it faced over the NB200 was the large 6-cell battery that protruded from the back of the chassis. It’s probably not surprising to see, therefore, that the main difference between the new Pine Trail NB305 and its predecessor is a smaller chassis.
The Toshiba NB305 fits its battery underneath (rather than at the back) leading to more tilt compared to the NB200. Whilst we were very fond of the NB200 in our review, we do feel this newer design to be more practical. Laptop Mag reviewed the NB305-410 and found that whilst the new design is sleeker it does have shorter battery life. Read more
NbC: Toshiba Mini NB200 Review
December 31, 2009 at 10:49 am
Toshiba hit a home run with the Mini NB200, its first 10-inch netbook, winning rave reviews since launch. The NB200 follows on from its 8.9-inch NB100 and the company certainly upped the game in terms of marrying desirability, portability and endurance.
The Toshiba NB200 exists in various configurations. We tested the NB200-10Z, one of the higher end SKUs that comes with a 1.66GHz N280 Atom processor, chiclet keyboard, Bluetooth, Windows XP and a quoted 9 hours battery life. Read our full review and decide for yourself whether the Toshiba NB200 lives up to the hype. Read more
Toshiba NB300 netbook hits the FCC
December 12, 2009 at 7:55 pm
The Toshiba NB300 has passed through the FCC highlighting that a new 10.1-inch netbook is on the way from the company. There is not too much information from the filings but we can tell is that the NB300 is of similar size to the NB200/NB205. It will also come with Qualcomm’s Gobi2000 chipset for 3G coverage.
Apart from that, there’s not too much information. It is likely that the Toshiba NB300 will come with Intel’s upcoming Pineview N450 Atom processor and launch in Q1 2010.

NbC: Toshiba Mini NB200 netbook unboxed
August 27, 2009 at 4:47 pm
The Toshiba Mini NB200 netbook is widely regarded as one of the better netbooks on the market today. The NB200 is Toshiba’s 10-inch follow up to its 8.9-inch NB100. The same netbook has been released with slightly different names in Japan (Dynabook UX) and the US (Mini NB205).
We managed to get hold of the NB200 to find out whether it really stands up to the hype. The particular model we have is the NB200-10Z, which is the high end SKU. This model comes with a 1.66GHz N280 Atom CPU, chiclet keyboard and a battery that is rated to last for around 9 hours. It also comes with a love-it-or-hate-it satin brown lid that we quite like, the matte finish means little risk of fingerprint marks.
One of the first things you notice when you lay eyes on the NB200 for the first time is that it is one of the more stylish offerings in the netbook space. It has a silver chiclet keyboard and slender chassis, it also feels very solidly built. We’re disappointed that Toshiba didn’t use a matte display, but we’ll see just how much this hinders use under extensive testing. A full review of the NB200 will follow, but in the meantime check out our unboxing video and photo gallery after the break. As always, if you have any questions please let us know in the comments below. Read more
Toshiba NB200 netbook to come in pink and blue colours
July 20, 2009 at 9:36 am
The Toshiba NB200 netbook has garnered some very positive reviews since its recent launch. However, one factor that has divided critics was the stripy brown coloured lid that adorns the more expensive SKUs (along with a “snow white” model). You do of course get a black NB200, but that only comes with the lower-specced model.
Personally, I think the brown model looks quite nice, but regardless, Toshiba will be introducing new “silky pink” and “blue” colours in the UK. Like the brown and white models, the colours only extend to the lid and screen bezel, with the same well-regarded chiclet keyboard used as the more expensive versions. According to T3 these models will come with a 1.6GHz N270 Atom CPU, 1GB Ram and a 160GB HDD. They should hit UK retail within the next few weeks for £310. Check out some more pictures after the break. Read more
Toshiba NB205 reviewed – one of the best netbooks yet?
June 17, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Toshiba’s Mini NB205 netbook for the US market is essentially the same model as the Japanese SKU (Dynabook UX) and the European SKU (NB200). The 10-inch netbook is Toshiba’s follow-on from its first entry in the netbook space, its 8.9-inch NB100. Laptop Mag has published a full review of the NB205 and was full of praise of Toshiba’s 10-inch effort.
According to reviewer Joanna Stern, the netbook “soars past the competition” and she admired the “stunning design, stellar keyboard, and the longest battery life of any netbook to date”. Pretty convincing stuff, although with the last point, we already know that the MSI Wind U115 has the longest netbook battery life from other benchmarks we’ve seen. The NB205 managed to last for a respectable 8.5 hours on its 6-cell battery. Read more
Toshiba NB205 netbook announced for US market
June 2, 2009 at 10:40 am
Following on from the recent Toshiba ‘Dynabook UX’/NB200 launches in Japan and Europe respectively, Toshiba has confirmed that this 10-inch follow-on from the 8.9-inch NB100, will land in the US in the form of the NB205.
The model looks very similar to the NB200, albeit slightly slimmer, and will even come in 2 SKUs, as seen in Europe. The NB205-N310 netbook will be the more expensive version, featuring a metallic textured finish, a chrome hinge, chiclet keyboard and will be available in four different colours (Sable Brown, Frost White, Indigo Blue and Posh Pink). The mini NB205-N210 netbook has a fusion finish in Black Onyx, comes with a flat keyboard rather than chiclet with black matte finish. Read more
Toshiba NB200 hands-on video
May 14, 2009 at 1:33 pm
The Toshiba NB200 netbook is expected to launch within the next few weeks across Europe. Toshiba looks like it will be onto a winner with a unique lid design, strong battery life as well as a very large touchpad. NetbookNews.de went hands-on with two different NB200 SKUs, the 11H which comes with a N280 Atom CPU, 6-cell battery and chiclet keyboard along with the 11L that comes with a N270 Atom CPU, 3-cell battery and normal keyboard.
The 11H sports a comfortable chiclet keyboard which should mean less error when typing due to the spacing between keys. The touchpad was found to be one of the biggest seen on a netbook with large mouse buttons too. The design is unique and feels like it has a strong build quality. The 11L comes with a normal keyboard similar to the HP Mini 1000 and a glossy display. Check out the video after the break. Read more
Toshiba Dynabook UX (aka NB200) netbook tested
May 10, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Toshiba Japan’s Dynabook UX, the company’s first 10-inch netbook, is also known as the NB200 in Western markets. The Dynabook follows on from the 8.9-inch NB100 netbook and according to some, could go on to become a best-seller for Toshiba. Portable Monkey has followed its initial impressions of the Dynabook with a full review.
The model they played with corresponds to the Toshiba NB200-11H SKU planned for the UK market costing £366.85, bar the 6-cell battery. This is not the top of the range SKU, that accolade goes to the Toshiba NB200-10Z (Brown) and NB200-110 (White) which both include Bluetooth for a few pounds extra.
As we have seen with recent previews, build quality was above par compared to other netbooks. The chiclet keyboard was found to be very good, although not quite as good as the one seen on the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. The touchpad was nice and large with the mouse buttons having good responsiveness. Battery life on the 3-cell lasted a commendable 3.5 hours. One of the main negative points was a very low sound volume from the speakers. Check out the key points after the break. Read more

First thoughts on Toshiba NB200 netbook
April 26, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Toshiba’s successor to its 8.9-inch NB100 netbook, the 10.1-inch NB200, has garnered mostly positive opinions since its announcement this week. Now, Peter over at Portable Monkey has managed to get his hands on the 10-inch Toshiba NB200 (or Dynabook UX as it is known in Japan) and has similar first impressions.
Excellent build quality seems to come through in several areas. As we saw in the previous NB200 hands-on video, the textured lid comes in for special praise. Comparisons are even made to the luxurious Asus Eee PC S101 netbook.
The NB200 also comes with a metallic silver chiclet keyboard and a large trackpad that maybe one of the best he’s seen on a netbook. It’s good to know that Toshiba has provided access to HDD and RAM too on the bottom panel. Click through for some more pictures after the break. Read more
Toshiba NB200 hands-on video
April 25, 2009 at 8:43 am
The Toshiba NB200 netbook was showcased at a London launch event this week. The NB200 is the 10.1-inch successor to Toshiba’s NB100 which came with an 8.9-inch display. It looks like the NB200 will create bigger waves than the NB100 due to a promised 9 hour battery life with the 6-cell battery as well as stylish design which includes a chiclet keyboard.
MegaWhat.TV was at the launch event to give their initial impressions and seemed to like the device, especially the textured lid. The 6-cell battery did seem to stick out, rather than being flush with the unit. It will be a trade off worth making as the 3-cell battery will only be good for 4 hours according to the company. Toshiba renames ‘Dynabook UX’ netbook to ‘NB200’ in Europe
April 22, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Toshiba Japan launched a new 10-inch netbook on Monday, the Dynabook UX. This would be a first move for Toshiba into the 10-inch display space following its 8.9-inch NB100. Following on from this model naming scheme, Toshiba has now confirmed that it will be marketing the new 10-inch model as the NB200 for the European market.
The model will come with a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) LED backlit display. There will be a number of configurations, enabling you to choose between a N270 or N280 Atom processor. Both configurations will come with the Intel 945GSE chipset. The snazzy tiling effect on the case lid will still be there as will the 160GB hard drive , Wi-Fi (b/g), Bluetooth and webcam.
Toshiba are claiming a four hour battery life and four colours will be available (brown, black, white and pink). The Mini NB200 will be available from next month (silver and grey colours only) at prices starting from £319 in the UK.
