Acer Aspire One D250 netbook announced, up for pre-order

The Acer Aspire One D250 has been officially announced today, appearing on both the Acer UK and Acer Germany sites. Well that certainly was the case earlier today, it seems that the D250 product listing has now been removed from both sites – maybe Acer weren’t ready to go public? Luckily we sat on the Acer UK product page from this morning so we still have all of the juicy details at our disposal!
The Aspire One D250 netbook looks to be quite lean and loaded. It comes with a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) LED backlit display in a slimline form-factor that is just 1-inch thick and weighing 1.11kg (2.4lbs) with the 3-cell battery. If using the 6-cell battery, the weight is still a reasonable 1.27kg (2.79lbs). The specifications list both the 1.6GHz N270 & 1.66GHz N280 Atom CPU for processing duties highlighting two possible iterations of the D250. It looks like both of these will be paired with the ageing 945GSE chipset (there’s no mention of the more powerful GN40 for the N280). It will come with 1GB RAM (2GB supported) and a 160GB hard-disk drive.
The keyboard will be 89-percent the size of a standard keyboard whilst its touchpad will support multi-touch. Other features include three USB ports, WiFi (b/g only), Bluetooth 2.0 and a 0.3MP webcam. The D250 will come in four different colours (Sapphire Blue, Seashell White, Diamond Black and Ruby Red). Three different batteries are listed although it is unclear as to which one will be standard. The 3-cell 2200 mAh battery should give 3.15hours of battery life according to Acer. Two 6-cell batteries are planned, the 4400 mAh rated battery will give 6 hours of life while the 5200 mAh will give 7.5 hours. Whilst impressive, this is still some way short of Samsungs and Asus recent announcements.
The Acer Aspire One D250 is up for pre-order on a number of UK sites. CCL Online has it for £335 and expects stock on 4th May. Play.com have it for slightly more expensive at £349.99 and expect stock on 27 April. Either way in the next month or so these should start hitting retail channels. It is already on sale in Germany at Amazon.de for €379 (£350) in all colours, however shipping time is 1-3 weeks which may bring us to the same time line as the UK sites.
