Gateway has introduced the LT21 series of Intel Pine Trail netbooks that promises a 10-hour battery life armed with a 1.66GHz N450 Atom Pineview processor and GMA 3150 graphics.
The LT21 series will come with a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) LED backlit display, a 93-percent keyboard and multi-gesture touchpad (pinch to zoom in/out). The netbook has 1GB RAM on board and you can choose from 160GB/250GB HDD options.
Various battery options will be available including a standard 6-cell 4400mAh battery (8 hrs), and an extended 6-cell 5600mAh battery (10 hrs). The batteries add bulk to the bottom rather than sticking out of the back according to the press release.
The Gateway LT21 can be configured with the latest Wi-Fi draft-N standard (an optional extra). Other features include three USB ports, VGA and card reader. It measures around an inch in thickness and weighs 2.76lbs.
Models will be available with either Windows XP Home or Windows 7 Starter. The Gateway LT21 series will be available later this month in the US with prices starting at $299.99. Colour options include Cherry Red, NightSky Black and Glacier White.

This was a reluctant purchase as I intended to buy a different brand/model of netbook. However, in the past few days my opinions have transitioned from lukewarm to “love it”. The display is rich and bright. I watched several Netflix streaming movies so far with excellent video quality. I am using the full version of Office 2007, Google Chrome, Skype, and Windows Media Player with total satisfaction. The only complaint I have is when I use the netbook for reading digital books, the Intel graphics accelerator software does not have an option to rotate the display image 90 degrees as is possible with most other netbooks (in order to hold as a book reader device). Other than that, this model far outperforms my expectations for a netbook in web surfing, communicating, and light word processing. On the physical side, it is sleek, purse size, and the touchpad has a pleasantly interesting texture. My standard 6-cell battery lasted through 7 hours of mixed use.
