LG outs 11.6-inch X300 ultrathin
January 7, 2010 at 9:20 pm
LG has unveiled a new super-skinny 11.6-inch ultraportable called the X300. It measures just 17.6mm and weighs just 970g. Whilst no pricing details have been revealed, the fanless X300 does not look cheap. It sports a tiny bezel with flush display.
The LG X300 is powered by a 2.0GHz Z550 Atom, 2GB RAM and a solid-state drive. It sports a chiclet keyboard and borderless touchpad that has hidden lighting and tactile feedback.
It comes with a 2-cell battery (including spare), which combined should last for 7 hours. Other features include a 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth, embedded 3G and SRS TruSurround HD. The LG X100 will be hitting retail next month globally. Check out some larger pics after the jump.

since LG previously put a T9900 and GT 9600M into its P310, this uint should at least have an I3 and GT 330M graphics. But, I’ll bet it doesn’t.

I don’t know who this machine is going to be marketed to. For those of us that need graphics capability, GMA 4500 does not cut it. For those who need any modicum of processing power, the Z550 Menlow Atom doesn’t cut it. It’s nothing other than a “pretty” stretched version of a 10″ netbook and doesn’t even have Pinetrail. I think the new HP tablet and probably the new apple Islate, or whatever it is called, will out perform this dinosaur.
LG has had incredible net/notebook designs with the P100 (duo core processor, nvidia graphics and tablet design) and the P310 (T9900 processor and GT 9600M Nvidia graphics, less than 1″ thick) that it is hard to understand LG’s retreat from creating such forward thinking designs to making eye-candy with crappy innards. Sony, HP and, dare I say it, Apple, have nothing to worry about here.

Fanless + SSD = Way to go! Further proof that silence is more than a good idea. “Forward thinking” should lead to noise elimination. Noise belongs to the industrial stone age IMHO. I hope to see some reviews soon. And reviewers: Don’t forget to mention the silent operation;-)
