Samsung announces another 10-inch netbook, the N120

March 24, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Following yesterday’s launch of two 10-inch netbooks, the successor to the NC10 called the N110 and the colourful N310, Samsung has announced yet another model. To fill in the model numbering gap, Samsung has announced the 10.1-inch N120 netbook, which offers a full 12-inch size keyboard. Samsung claims that the keyboard will have optimised key spacing, which should place less strain on your wrists, fewer errors and faster typing speeds. Read more

Samsung N310 full specs and pricing revealed

March 23, 2009 at 6:25 pm

Samsung has now officially revealed the full specifications and pricing of it’s upcoming 10-inch N310 netbook. [Note that the official name of the netbook is ‘N310’ rather than ‘NC310’ which Akihabara News reported on this morning]. The Samsung N310 will be powered by the ubiquitous 1.6GHz N270 Atom CPU and will sport a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) LED backlit display. This may disappoint some who were hoping for a more beefier CPU under the hood or a higher-resolution screen.

It means that performance should be very similar to other netbooks and the main point of differentiation will come from the love-it-or-hate-it design. It will also come with a 4-cell lithium ion battery rated at 4400mAh. The N310 will release in May at a price point of £399. It is expected to release in Europe in April for €499. Check out the full specifications after the break along with the first official press shot. Read more

Samsung N110 netbook announced & reviewed

March 23, 2009 at 10:28 am

Samsung has unveiled yet another 10-inch netbook this morning, following the unveiling of the NC310. This time, Samsung is looking to build upon the success of its best-selling NC10, by announcing its third 10-inch netbook called the Samsung N110. The N110 has improved on its predecessor in a number of areas including an expanded touchpad and a higher capacity 6-cell 5900 mAh battery (versus 5200 mAh in the NC10) that should give over seven hours of battery life. The design is also slightly different with a glossy lid with red border. Read more

Samsung unveils new NC310 netbook

March 23, 2009 at 9:09 am

Samsung will shortly be launching a new netbook, dubbed NC310, for release on the global market according to Akihabara News. Whilst information is limited right now, what we do now is that this 10.1-inch netbook will have a battery life of 5 hours (no idea on battery capacity) rising to 11 hours with the extended battery.

There is also no information on what CPU powers the NC310, however we do know it will come with 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard-disk drive. Other features that come with the NC310 include WiFi (b/g only), 3G, Bluetooth and a 1.3MP webcam. The unit weighs 1.23kg, dimensions are unknown.

My personal opinion is that the NC310 range looks a bit cheap compared to the NC10/NC20. The range comes in a number of bright colours with what seems to be a large ‘SAMSUNG’ embossed on the lid cover. It makes it look a bit tacky in our view, although pricing will determine who this is targeted to. No release date has been announced thus far. We have included a gallery of pictures after the jump. Samsung NC10 4G netbook with built-in WiMAX

March 20, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Samsung and Yota, a Russian provider of mobile services, will release a modified version of the Samsung NC10 netbook which includes a built-in mobile WiMAX module. The Samsung NC10 4G is the first netbook to support WiMAX technology in Russia. Connection to Yota’s fourth-generation network allows speeds of up to 10Mbps.

This modification of our netbook is a historically first notebook of such class in Russia with a built-in Mobile WiMAX module. Samsung aims to dip into tomorrow, to shape new trends and to build a convenient future. Yota has already brought this future to Moscow and St. Petersburg, and soon will deliver it to other Russian cities. And the 4G netbook NC10 will be the simplest and the most affordable key to this future,” said Sun Hong Lim, General Director, Samsung Electronics CIS & Baltics.

Apart from the built-in WiMAX other specifications remain the same. Samsung’s NC10 is a 1.33kg netbook with a 10.2-inch LED display powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor. It also comes with a 160 GB hard drive, 3-in-1 multi memory slot, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam. The NC10 also features a full size keyboard and 5200 mAH high capacity 6 cell Lithium battery, providing up to eight hours of use on a full charge. The Samsung NC10 4G netbook will be available at Yota stores costing RUB 19,990 (c$600).

Samsung NC20 US launch delayed to early April

March 18, 2009 at 5:33 pm

The Samsung NC20, the 12-inch brother to the ever-popular NC10 netbook, has seen its launch delayed in the US by a few weeks. The unit was meant to launch exclusively through NewEgg.com on March 16. However, here we are on March 18 and a quick search on its site yields no results (not even a placeholder page). According to Laptop Mag, the NC20 launch has been delayed by a few weeks for reasons unknown and now expects to be out in the first week of April.

NewEgg will be exclusively selling the US version in black only for $549. It will come with a 5900 mAh capacity battery compared to overseas models which have a 5200 mAh rated battery. The Samsung NC20 is the first netbook to support the 1.6GHz VIA Nano CPU and comes with 1GB RAM.

Samsung NC10 Special Edition now shipping in US

March 7, 2009 at 9:28 am

The ‘Special Edition’ of Samsung’s NC10 netbook is now shipping exclusively from Amazon. The difference over the standard version is that the SE (NC10-11PBK) comes in black and has a larger capacity six-cell battery (5900 mAh vs 5200 mAh) and bigger trackpad. As can be seen from the picture below, the trackpad is only marginally bigger than the original NC10. Amazon has reduced the price by $30, selling it for $469 delivered, however it looks like the first batch has already sold out and you’re in for a two-five week wait for the second batch to appear. Availability outside of the US is unknown right now, although there is a rumour that a major UK high street retailer is due to get them in soon. More information as we get it.

First Samsung NC20 review appears

March 6, 2009 at 11:00 am

NC20The Samsung NC10 has been one of the most popular and critically acclaimed netbooks on the market to date. The Samsung NC20 is its elder brother, featuring a 12.1-inch (1280 x 800) screen as opposed to the 10″ screen found in the NC10. The first review of the Samsung NC20 has appeared over at Laptap Mag, just over a week before its March 16 launch in the US. The NC20 will be the first netbook to support the 1.6GHz VIA Nano CPU, as opposed to the Intel Atom, but performance was found to be on par if not slightly better than Intels offering.

Laptop Mag’s overall verdict was four stars and found that the NC20 blurred the line between netbooks and notebooks. However, they found that the larger screen size gives a comfortable computing experience with a solid keyboard, which some users may be willing to pay extra for. It’s worth mentioning that the review is based on a Korean unit, with the main difference being that it comes with a lower capacity battery than the one shipping in the US version.

Samsung NC20 set for US launch on 16th March

Samsung NC20 vs NC10

The Samsung NC20 will be the first netbook to support the 1.6GHz VIA Nano CPU and will come with 1GB Ram and a 5900-mAh battery. According to the guys over at Laptop Mag, it will come in black only.
