Asus Eee PC T91 manual exposed plus hands-on impressions

The Asus Eee PC T91 netbook has hit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and they have left some juicy titbits for us to gander at. As well publishing a number of external and internal photos of the T91 being tested, they have also revealed the T91 manual.

In the documents, we get confirmation of the non-removable battery, which we already knew from recent previews. It does seem that RAM is upgradeable though with an access panel at the bottom of the lid. It also looks like the GPS board can be swapped out for a combo GPS and 3G board, giving you internal 3G. There also seems to be dual SD card slots, one of them being a “Disk-expander Slot”.

The manual on the FCC site appears to be the finished version. However, it doesn’t really reveal anything particularly new. What we did find out is that the 8.9-inch convertible tablet will come with a touchscreen pen that will be housed on the right side of the netbook. There is also some detail on the software used, including the Eee Docking Touch. The manual can be downloaded here.

Eee Arena gives you access to Radio, Live TV and Games. Eee Sharing allows you to synchronize the data on your Eee PC with another PC at home. Eee Xperience gives you access to SRS software and the DVD player whilst Eee Tools has an update service as well as SoftStylus app. This utility is a finger-writing recognition application that enables you to write down messages on the touchpad with your finger . There is also a virtual keyboard available for you to type on.

If that wasn’t enough Eee PC T91 news for one day, Electric Pig has managed to go hands on with a pre-production unit. I assume it is a pre-production sample as the Asus Magic Desktop software “isn’t quite finished yet” and “the screen is responsive but difficult to control with your finger.” Given that this is the whole point of the T91 I imagine the retail version will be much more responsive to finger feedback.
