Asus Eee PC 1008P & 1008PGO Pineview-powered netbooks hit FCC
October 28, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Two new Asus Eee PC netbooks have hit the FCC today, the Eee PC 1008P & Eee PC 1008PGO. Judging by the filing documents, these new netbooks will run on Intel’s 1.66GHz N450 Atom ‘Pineview’ processor. Other specs gathered from the documents include a 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi (b/g/n), 1.3MP webcam and Bluetooth 2.1.
Given the model name, I would guess it will be very similar to the current Eee PC 1008HA model that has simply been refreshed to come with the new Intel CPUs. The GO version is likely to be the 3G-enabled version, following the similar naming convention used on other Eee PC netbooks today. There’s no details on availability outside the US yet, but we’ll keep you updated with future developments.

Asus Eee Net: File-sharing software gets video preview
October 27, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Asus is set to launch some new software called Eee Net that is currently still under development. It can be used to share files between your netbook and desktop PC at home as well as having instant messaging functionality.
I’m not convinced anyone would use this over current dedicated software solutions, but you can check out a short preview from NetbookNews yourself after the break. Read more
Asus dismisses dual-boot Android netbooks
October 26, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Asus President & CEO, Jerry Shen, has said that dual-operating system netbooks are “meaningless” due to the advent of Windows 7. In what is likely a dig towards Acer’s dual-boot Android netbook, he said that Microsoft’s new OS has already significantly improved the boot speed of netbooks, negating the need for alternative operating systems such as Android.
Shen went on to say that around 30 percent of its netbook line-up has already moved to Windows 7, which is expected to rise to 80 percent by Q1 2010 once new models with Intel’s Pine Trail platform are launched. He also expects ultra-thins to become more prevalent as we move into 2010, moving from a double-digit percentage of overall notebook shipments currently to 20-30 percent share by H1 2010.

Asus Eee PC 1201N specs get confirmed?
October 23, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Pierre over at Blogeee has managed to get hold of what looks like some authentic specs of the French SKU of the upcoming Asus Eee PC 1201N. The good news is that it confirms what’s already been rumoured. The 12.1-inch (1366 x 768) model will come with a 1.6GHz dual-core 330 Atom processor and Nvidia ION chipset. It will also have 2GB Ram and a 250GB HDD.
It will come with Windows Home Premium and feature Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth, a 0.3MP webcam, HDMI-out, three USB ports and weigh 1.4kg. Running a dual-core CPU with Nvidia ION will take its toll on battery life and so far that remains a mystery, although we know that it will feature a 6-cell (5600mAh) battery. The device will be launched in December, just enough time to get it under the Christmas tree. More details as we have it. Check out the specs (in French) after the break. Read more
Asus Eee PC 1210HA / 1201N manuals uncovered; differences outlined
October 22, 2009 at 12:51 pm
The manual for Asus’ upcoming 12.1-inch Eee PC netbook series is now live. Whilst we know quite a bit about the Eee PC 1201HA, information on the 1201N has been subject to rumour, but is believed to be equipped with ION graphics and a dual-core processor.
Interestingly the manual gives details on both models and shows the port differences between them too. We can see from the schematics that the 1201N does indeed include a HDMI-out that is not found on the 1201HA, in all likelihood confirming the ION chipset. The manual also talks of an Eee PC 1201T model that appears to lack the HDMI. It seems similar to the 1201HA but only has two USB ports compared to the three found in the 1201HA. Read more

In terms of larger netbook models, Asus has listed the 11.6-inch 1101HA and 12.1-inch 1201HA along with the 1201N. The latter is rumoured to come with Nvidia ION graphics and a dual-core Atom processor. This is the first time Asus has formally acknowledged this model. Read more

October 21, 2009 at 7:45 am
Asus Japan has announced a new addition to its Seashell family of Eee PC netbooks. The Asus Eee PC 1005HR appears to be exactly the same as current 1005HA Windows 7 models, but instead sports a high-resolution 10.1-inch display with resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
The 1005HR is powered by a 1.66GHz N280 Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD. It comes with Windows 7 Starter Edition and has a 6-cell battery that should be good for 8.4 hours. Other features include Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1, 0.3MP webcam and three USB ports. It weighs 1.27kg.
The Eee PC 10005HR is available in both black & white and will be on sale in Japan in mid-November for 49,800 Yen. There’s no word whether this will appear in Europe/North America at this time.

Windows 7 netbooks now available to pre-order in UK
October 20, 2009 at 6:06 pm
The advent of Windows 7 is leading to a shift of netbooks running XP to Windows 7 Starter Edition. We’d advise anyone looking to buy a netbook right now to sit tight and see how pricing settles. Whilst Windows 7 netbooks are (initially) likely to be more expensive, prices will come down. Even if you’re not bothered about Win 7, normal XP netbooks will drop in price as XP is perceived to be old-hat.
Yesterday, we brought you a list of netbooks available to pre-order in the US and today we noticed a large number of Windows 7 netbooks available to pre-order from Amazon UK. Most of these netbooks are shipping with Windows 7 Starter Edition and will launch on October 22nd. Check out the list after the jump. Read more
Asus Eee PC 1201HA netbook now official; press shots live
October 20, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Asus Italy has today confirmed the existence of the Eee PC 1201HA Seashell. This 12.1-inch netbook will be launching in mid-November with Windows 7 Home Premium in tow for €399.
The 1201HA has a 6-cell battery that the company claims will last for 8 hours, not bad at all considering the larger display. It will be powered by a 1.33GHz Z520 Atom CPU and come with 2GB RAM and a 250GB HDD. Other features include a 0.3MP webcam, Wi-Fi (b/g/n) and 500GB of online data storage. Read more
Asus intros “Business” refresh of Eee PC 1005HA
October 20, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Asus clearly believes that the netbooks portability and great battery life are factors that would appeal to most business people on the move. It has therefore launched the Eee PC 1005HA Business edition, to compete against the HP Mini 5101.
This business refresh differs in a couple of ways. Firstly, it offers Windows XP Professional (rather than XP) and secondly, this allows it to have 2GB RAM installed as standard.
Apart from that I couldn’t tell any other difference. You’ll still get a 1.66GHz N280-powered netbook with 10.1-inch (1024x 600) display, 160GB HDD and 10-hour battery life. There’s no sign of it appearing on Western shores right now, but it is available in Japan from today for the equivalent of €478/$715.

Windows 7 netbooks now available for pre-order
October 19, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Following on from our previous post, where we highlighted the Intel CULV-powered ultra-thins that are now available to pre-order with Windows 7, we bring you a similarly long list of Windows 7 netbooks.
HP now has Windows 7 options on its site. The premium for Windows 7 is $50 for the Mini 311 (Home Premium) and $30 for the Mini 110 (Starter Edition). Dell also has Windows 7 options up on its site, it is charging $30 for the Starter Edition on its Mini 10/10v netbooks.
Amazon.com has been busy listing a number of new netbook SKUS with Windows 7. Most of these new models are running on Windows 7 Starter Edition and run 250GB hard drives, rather than the 160GB standard up until now. Memory modules are still stuck at 1GB though. Check out the list of Windows 7 netbooks available to pre-order below. Read more
Windows 7 CULV-based ultra-thins now up for pre-order
October 19, 2009 at 11:56 am
As we approach the launch of Windows 7 this Thursday (October 22nd) a number of notebook manufacturers are making the switch over to the new OS. We’ve been drip-feeding Windows 7 devices over the past few weeks and a number of these Intel CULV-powered ultra-thins are now appearing for pre-order on Amazon.com.
After the break we have listed all of these, typically 11.6-inch Windows 7 devices, which are now up for pre-order. Most are due to land on October 22nd; Windows 7 launch day. There are a few notable Windows 7 absentees including the Samsung N510, Acer Aspire Timeline 1820P, and Lenovo Ideapad U150. Check out the list after the break. Read more
Asus’ multi-touch Eee PC T91MT launching this week
October 19, 2009 at 9:03 am
The 8.9-inch Asus Eee PC T91 convertible netbook hasn’t sold through the roof, but then perhaps that was always expected given that most people knew a multi-touch model would be released with the launch of Windows 7.
Whilst we’ve not too heard too much of this recently, it appears that Asus is planning to launch this model, dubbed the Eee PC T91MT (‘MT’ obviously standing for multi-touch). The eagle eyes over at NetbookNews.de spotted that the black and white models are available to pre-order at Amazon.de for €505.98 and will launch on October 22nd (coinciding with the Windows 7 launch date).
The T91MT will come with Windows 7 Home Premium and a 160GB HDD (instead of the 16GB flash drive found on the T91). I’ve not seen similar listings in the UK or US for now, although I’d be surprised if it wasn’t made available in those markets soon.
Asus Eee PC T101H debuting with N450 Atom in January?
October 14, 2009 at 8:21 pm
There has been little word regarding the 10.2-inch big brother to the 8.9-inch Asus Eee PC T91 convertible netbook. The Asus Eee PC T101H seems to have been in a state of limbo, whilst the company decides whether it worth green lighting the netbook or not. However, according to NetbookNews.de, it is on its way, expecting to make a formal appearance at CES in January 2010 and sporting a 1.66GHz N450 Atom Pineview processor.
The T101H is expected to come with a 10.2-inch resistive touchscreen display (mo multi-touch here) along with Windows 7. It will come with 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD, Wi-Fi (Draft-N), an accelerometer and a battery life good for 8 hours.
Options will include 3G and DVB-T digital TV. Pricing is expected to be between €650-€700. Not cheap considering that there is likely to be devices with multi-touch displays probably launching in the same time frame.
Asus intros Eee PC 1000HT value netbook in Japan
October 12, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Asus has released a budget netbook in Japan that looks like trimmed down Asus Eee PC 1000HE. The Eee PC 1000HT appears to share similar styling to the 1000HE but isn’t as well specified.
The 1000HT comes with a 1.6GHz N270 Atom processor, 0.3MP webcam, Wi-Fi (b/g) and a lower capacity 6-cell battery. Other features are the same, including a 1024×600 10.1-inch matte display, 1GB RAM and a 160GB HDD.
I would be surprised if this value netbook appears in Europe, especially as Asus were meant to be cutting down on their product offering. The 1000HT goes on sale on 17th October for 37,800 Yen.
