Asus Eee PC 1000HV makes a reappearance with ATi graphics

The Asus Eee PC 1000HV was first revealed as part of the Eee PC roadmap back in July last year. No features were announced, but according to the leaked slide (below), it was to fit in a ‘Pro Fashion category’ next to the 1002HA and T101. Nothing had been heard since that leak, but fast forward 10 months and the model has now been spotted for pre-order at an online retailer.
The good thing is that a full set of specifications have been listed alongside it too. The most interesting point is that it will pack discrete graphics with an ATi Radeon HD 3450 GPU with 256MB memory. Apart from that, it appears to be very similar to the 1000HE. The 1000HV has a 10-inch (1024 x 600) display powered by a 1.66GHz N280 Atom CPU, 1GB RAM and a 160GB HDD.
Other features include Wi-Fi (draft-N), Bluetooth 2.0, 3-in-1 card reader, three USB ports and a 1.3MP webcam. Despite the discrete graphics, there is only a VGA port for video (no HDMI). The standard 6-cell battery should be good for 5 hours of battery life. Dimensions are 26.6 x 19.12 x 3.8 cm.
There has been no official confirmation from Asus yet regarding this model, although the drivers are listed on the Asus support site. The retailer only has a blue model listed right now at a pre-order price of €449. More information on this as we have it.
Update: Marco from Notebook Italia has been in touch to say that Asus Italy representatives have confirmed that the 1000HV is a special configuration that will ship in Computer Discount stores.

Is it just me or does this ATI chipset come out of left field? In the last 6 months we’ve read about the GN40 intel chip as well as the nvidia ion chipset but nothing from ATI. This is a surprise to me. However from readying the above one needs to sacrifice roughly 4 hours of battery life compared to the 1000HE.
