Google CEO: Chrome OS devices to cost $300-$400, same as netbooks
April 20, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Eric Schmidt, Google’s Chief Executive, has been speaking about its upcoming Chrome OS at the Atmosphere Cloud Computing forum and let rip some previously unknown details regarding pricing. He says that price points should be similar to that of current netbooks and also hopes for Chrome OS devices to be bundled by mobile phone operators.
“It will be up to the manufacturers who do it, but the price points you should think about are the current netbook pricings which are 300 dollar, 400 dollar price points,” said Schmidt. “Those prices are completely determined, by the way, by the costs of the glass, the costs of the processor and things like that, but in our case Chrome OS and Android are free so there is no software tax associated with all of this.” Read more

April 19, 2010 at 7:31 pm
Acer has a new AMD-powered netbook on the horizon called the Aspire One 521. Trusted source macles has come up with the details who says that this 10-inch model will feature the AMD V105 processor. This CPU will not be formally announced until May, but we know that it is the slowest single-core of the “Nile” platform. It is clocked at 1.2GHz and comes with 512KB L2 Cache, a TDP of 9W and DDR3 support.
The AMD V105 CPU is paired with the AMD M880G chipset. The AAO 521 will also come with the as yet unannounced ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 graphics core that has 384MB of dedicated video memory. Asus Eee PC 900AX, 1201K and 1201X netbooks uncovered
April 17, 2010 at 4:40 pm
A new Asus Eee PC 900 model passed through the FCC yesterday. The 900AX is likely to be an 8.9-inch model powered by an Intel Atom processor running either Windows XP or Linux. Given the age of this line of Asus netbooks I’d be surprised to see it turn up in Europe or the US, although there may be other regions that Asus is planning to target with this netbook.
A couple of new 12-inch model names were unearthed too. This includes the Asus Eee PC 1201K and 1201X. These models were spotted over on Asus’ support pages. As to how different these are to the current 1201 range remains a mystery for now.

Pierre from Blogeee managed to get hold of some official press shots of the 1015PE and it’s looking like a nice update. I especially like the chrome effect used on the sides of the touchpad. Check out Blogeee for the full gallery.
Toshiba plans Android & twin-screen Windows tablets
April 15, 2010 at 3:09 pm
We already heard that Toshiba were preparing to launch its own tablets by Q1 2011 and now we have a bit more detail on the slates themselves. According to a Reuters report, Toshiba will launch at least one 10-inch tablet on the Android platform and another “dual-screen model running Windows.”
These tablets are expected to be media consumption devices, much like the Apple iPad. The company also doesn’t expect tablets to cannibalise other devices. “We definitely see a place for the slate, we see there’s a market there” says Jeff Barney, general manager of digital products for Toshiba America. “It’ll be expansive like netbooks, it won’t be cannibalistic … Media consumption on these slates will be the main user activity.” Read more
Samsung NB30 Touch reviewed – good multitouch performance
April 15, 2010 at 11:08 am
The Samsung NB30 Touch was officially launched in Italy yesterday. It is similar in most respects to the rugged NB30 netbook but comes with a 10-inch touchscreen display. GeekNews have reviewed a pre-production NB30 Touch already and liked what they saw.
It’s nice to see the netbook sport a matte display, that should hopefully make fingerprint marks less of an issue compared to a glossy touchscreen. It’s also worth noting that it comes with a multitouch capacitive display, something we weren’t sure of on its official announcement. Performance from the 1.66GHz N450 Atom processor was fine along with the response of the screen. Read more

One of the best Hackintosh netbooks around has reached its natural end of life. Dell is discontinuing the Mini 10v netbook, in light of the new Pine Trail Mini 10 models. The Mini 10v came with a 1.6GHz N270 Atom processor.
