Dell’s Pine Trail Mini 10 netbook unboxed [Video]

The new Dell Mini 10, equipped with the latest Intel Pine Trail processor, has a different design over the older model that actually warrants a look. It is slimmer than the original and is characterised by its white base. The battery is also more integrated and it comes with a 92 percent keyboard. It also features a “hinge forward” design, more recently seen on its luxury Adamo laptop.

Lenovo Thinkpad X100e reviewed – great ergonomics, poor internals

The Lenovo Thinkpad X100e has seen its first review courtesy of Peter at Netbooked. He praised the typical Thinkpad industrial looks and ergonomics and went as far to say that the chiclet keyboard is the best used on an 11.6-inch device. Add the fact that it includes a matte display and trackpoint navigation and the X100e doesn’t let the Thinkpad brand name down.

Peter was less enamored with choice of 1.6Ghz AMD Athlon Neo processor that was sluggish in use and barely more powerful than your average netbook. However, the X100e is good enough for HD video playback thanks to its ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics, although you don’t get a HDMI-out included. Read more

Acer Aspire 532h & HP Mini 210 netbooks unboxed [Video]

For those keeping an eye on the Acer Aspire 532h & HP Mini 210 Pine Trail netbooks, you may want to check out a couple of unboxing videos for a closer look. nDevil unboxed a HP Mini 210 with high-resolution (1366 x 768) display. You can see that the 6-cell battery sticking out quite a bit at the back, another video also shows the screw-less access to the bottom panel.

Lenovo’s 1.83GHz Ideapad S10-3t convertible netbook now shipping

Intel hasn’t officially announced any details regarding its 1.83GHz N470 Pineview Atom processor, however at least one netbook is now on sale sporting the new CPU. The Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t convertible tablet is on sale in the US (with N470 Atom) for $649 and is shipping in 9 business days. It comes with a 10-inch multitouch display.

This puts it at $100 more than the N450 Atom-based S10-3t. However the more expensive SKU does get you Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB RAM and a 250GB HDD as standard. The cheaper version comes with W7 Starter, 1GB RAM and a 160GB HDD. This could mean other netbooks sporting the faster Pineview processor are likely to be available soon.

Samsung N210 and N220 netbooks hit UK retail

Samsung’s N210 and N220 Pine Trail netbooks are now available in the UK via a number of different retailers. Amazon UK doesn’t have them in stock but has listed them as being “usually dispatched within 1 to 3 months”. However, a number of other e-tailers have them listed in stock including CCL Computers and Laptops Direct. CCL has the cheapest prices with the N210 listed for £307.63 and N220 for £318.10.

The 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) Pine Trail netbooks will have an 11-hour battery life and come with the N450 Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD and Windows 7 Starter. Other features include chiclet keyboard, Wi-Fi (b/g/n) and webcam. Read more

New Sony Vaio Pine Trail netbook in the works?

A new 10.1-inch Sony Vaio netbook has been spotted passing through the FCC. The device has the ‘PCG-21313L’ model number, but we’re not treated to any proper pictures just yet. Judging by the bottom, the model does seem to be different to the recently announced Sony Vaio W Eco Edition.

In terms of specs it doesn’t look too different to what we are becoming accustomed to as the new norm for netbooks i.e. 1.66GHz N450 Atom processor, up to 2GB RAM, 250/320GB HDD and Windows 7. It will also feature Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth and a webcam. Check out some more FCC evidence after the jump. Read more

Lenovo ThinkPad X100e gets video unboxing

The 11.6-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X100e is the closest thing you’ll get to a Thinkpad netbook. Netbooked has posted an unboxing and some initial first impressions. The keyboard seems to exhibit some flex if you press down hard enough and the trackpad and mouse buttons are soft and quiet to the touch. The 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) matte display is also a big plus.

The Thinkpad X100e being tested comes with a 1.6GHz single-core AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor. Dual-core models will be available at a later date. It also comes with 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, ATI HD 3200 graphics, Wi-Fi (b/g/n) and Windows 7 Home Premium.

Wyse X90CW netbook: 11.6” mobile thin client launched

Wyse Technology has introduced a new 11.6-inch netbook called the X90CW. The new model is unlike other netbooks in that it is a mobile thin client targeted for business users. There is no hard drive on the device (apart from 4GB of flash memory) as all of the data is stored and accessed remotely.

Wyse specialises in thin client devices and this is the smallest model with an 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) display. It is powered by a 1.33GHz Z530 Atom processor and 1GB RAM and comes with the Windows Embedded Standard 2009 OS. As you would expect, the X90CW supports desktop virtualization and cloud computing, including protocols such as Citrix ICA/HDX, Microsoft RDP 7, and PCoIP found in VMware View.

The X90CW mobile thin client comes with various features including Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1, webcam, 3G support and an 8-hour 6-cell battery. The device weighs 3.2lbs. It is available now for a pricey $699. Check out the full specs after the jump. Read more

Acer Aspire One 532h reviewed – good value for money

Acer’s first Pine Trail netbook, the Aspire One 532h has seen its first review from Engadget. The 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) AO532h has pretty standard specs, for this new Pine Trail generation. You’ll get a 1.66GHz N450 Atom processor, 1GB RAM, a 160GB HDD and Windows 7 Starter. You’ll also get a 6-cell battery for a bargain-busting $299.

You don’t get anything more than a plastic chassis for that kind of money, but thankfully it doesn’t feel any cheaper than its rivals. It’s also reasonably lightweight at 2.4lbs and just an inch thick, thinner than both the Asus Eee PC 1005PE and MSI Wind U135. The 532h comes with a chiclet keyboard, although it isn’t the best implementation with small spacing between keys and shallow travel. The palm rest-integrated touchpad is a bit too “grippy” although it is multi-touch enabled. Read more

Gateway LT2102H netbook unboxed and first impressions

The Gateway LT2102H is just one of the company’s offerings in the 10-inch Pine Trail space. Lee from Minifrag managed to get hold of a unit and has posted his initial impressions of the device as well as some unboxing pictures.

This is his fourth Acer/Gateway device and the build quality is as good as the last. The chiclet keyboard is comfortable to use, despite a slight wiggle. The touchpad is large and the single rocker mouse button has a solid feel. Whilst, Lee hasn’t done a full battery test yet, he says that the 3-cell 2200mAh battery should last 4 hours and 55 minutes according to Windows 7. Read more

Toshiba NB305 reviewed – smaller footprint and lower battery life

The Toshiba NB305 is the 10-inch netbook follow-up to the well received NB205 (NB200 in the UK). According to Toshiba, one of the biggest criticisms it faced over the NB200 was the large 6-cell battery that protruded from the back of the chassis. It’s probably not surprising to see, therefore, that the main difference between the new Pine Trail NB305 and its predecessor is a smaller chassis.

The Toshiba NB305 fits its battery underneath (rather than at the back) leading to more tilt compared to the NB200. Whilst we were very fond of the NB200 in our review, we do feel this newer design to be more practical. Laptop Mag reviewed the NB305-410 and found that whilst the new design is sleeker it does have shorter battery life. Read more

LG X200: Pine Trail netbook with 10.1” HD display

As well as the super-slim LG X300 11.6-inch ultrathin, LG will be launching the 10.1-inch X200 netbook. The LG X200 has a high resolution (1366 x 768) display and is powered by either a 1.66GHz N450 or 1.83GHz N470 Pineview Atom processor.

Other features include up to 2GB RAM, a 250/320GB HDD, Windows 7 Starter, Wi-Fi, SmartOn 2.0 instant-on OS and optional 3G. Battery options include a 4-cell 2000mAh battery or 6-cell 2600 mAh battery. There are no pricing details but it is expected to launch in February 2010. Samsung N127 Moblin netbook planned for India, Russia in Q1 2010

Samsung is prepping a 10.1-inch netbook with the Moblin operating system during Q1 2010. The Samsung N127 will first launch in India and Russia at an unknown price point. If the launch goes well, either this model or another Samsung Moblin netbook will launch in Q2 2010.

The Samsung N127 is powered by an Intel Atom Z-series processor, more than enough grunt to run Moblin adequately. Ars Technica got some hands-on time with the Samsung N127 and found that Moblin ran very snappily. As Moblin has been designed for small screens, the large icons and bright colours help with the user experience. Read more

Splashtop 2.0 instant-on OS now official

Splashtop has announced that version 2.0 is now official. The new features includes even faster performance, touch optimisation, better 3G connectivity, a redesigned application dock as well the ability to customise the desktop.

Other features include instant search that allows you to search even before opening the browser and a visual navigation of browsing history. The first netbook to feature Splashtop will be the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t convertible netbook.

Asus Eee PC T101MT specs unearthed

The Asus Eee PC T101MT convertible netbook was first spotted passing through the FCC a few weeks back, and it was again on show at CES. The 10-inch version of the 8.9” Eee PC T91MT has been due to launch for the best part of the year, but its appearance hopefully means we will see it hit retail shelves in 2010.

The MT stands for multi-touch, although strangely Asus has opted for a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) resistive panel, rather than capacitive. This means you need to exert a little pressure on the screen to get pinching to work. Asus has bundled a stylus and handwriting software into the package to make the most of its tablet features.
