NbC: Asus Eee PC T91 tablet netbook video hands-on
June 26, 2009 at 11:45 am
The Asus Eee PC T91 is certainly one of the most eagerly awaited netbooks on the horizon. We managed to get hands-on with the 8.9-inch convertible tablet at a press event yesterday held at Lamborghini London. Overall our experience of the unit was a positive one, although we do have some reservations about the interface.
What strikes you when you first catch eyes on the T91 is just how small it is. The model doesn’t have the curves that you see on the Seashell Eee PC range, the T91’s design is more ‘boxy’, but that doesn’t detract from the styling. We found the T91 to be very solidly built, with the hinge mechanism feeling quite sturdy, something that’s crucial for such a device. We noticed no creaking when pressing on the case and, despite its size; I felt that I could comfortably put the T91 into a bag without worrying about its fragility. Read more
Asus UK: Eee PC T91 delayed due to “logistical mishap”
June 20, 2009 at 5:31 pm
The Asus Eee PC T91 was meant to be released at the end of May/early June in the UK. However, as things stand the 8.9-inch convertible tablet still hasn’t been released. Apparently the delay has been caused by a “logistical mishap” in the retail distribution channels according to AsusTablet. As to exactly what this means remains a mystery for now, but let’s hope it’s nothing due to problems with the T91 itself.
When we spoke to Asus UK last week, we were told that the Eee PC T91 would launch in “early July”, with anything up to the second week of July intimated. However, AsusTablet claim that now that this problem in distribution is out of the way, the units should start shipping on Monday 22nd June. We’ll try to get clarification from Asus directly on Monday on shipping dates.
Thanks Brianna!
Asus Eee PC T91 starts shipping in US this week?
June 15, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Whilst Asus’ 8.9-inch convertible tablet, the Eee PC T91, won’t be released in the UK until early July, it may end up seeing a US release this week according to what one dealer has been told. AllAsus was told that the T91 will start shipping from 15th June in small quantities.
I’m a bit dubious about the news, as from what I can tell it has still yet to appear in any of the major US retailers. However, the T91 netbook did recently appear on the official US Asus site and it is already appearing on the Asus Event comparison chart. Hopefully, this means its release can’t be too far away.
Whilst an official US press price has yet to be revealed, AllAsus has it listed for $529. The UK SKU will launch for £450 and should be here within a month’s time at the latest.
Update: Thought this was too good to be true, Liliputing has had confirmation from Asus that the Eee PC T91 will not hit US shores until the end of July.

Asus Eee PC T91 available in UK from “early July”
June 11, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Asus’ first convertible tablet, the 8.9-inch Eee PC T91, was originally slated for a late May/early June release. As things stand though, it is still nowhere to be seen. We got in touch with Asus UK to find out what the deal was and was told that it should now be expected in “early July”.
We pressed for a more definitive date, but they said that the actual launch date will depend on a number of factors that just aren’t known now. All we do know is that “early July” encompasses week 1 and 2 of July. So hopefully by the 11th July this should hit UK stores. They did confirm the price to us though, expecting it to sell at an RRP of £449.
The official specifications were released last week and include a 1.33GHz Z520 Atom CPU with the Poulsbo chipset and 1GB RAM. It will come with 82GB of storage that constitutes a “16GB Solid State Drive + 16GB SD Card + 30GB Portable Hard Disk Drive + 20GB Eee Storage”. Asus claims that the sealed Lithium polymer battery is good for 5 hours of use. However, with a rumoured multi-touch T91 model launching in with Windows 7, £449 may be a bit much to ask for a model that may become superceded so quickly.
Asus Eee PC T91 tablet netbook to support multi-touch?
June 4, 2009 at 11:27 pm
The 8.9-inch Asus Eee PC T91 is one of our most eagerly anticipated netbooks. However, if there was one feature we wish it had, was a multi-touch screen. With Windows 7 launching in just over four month’s time, a multi-touch screen in any netbook device right now would be a forward-looking inclusion.
It may seem that Asus is thinking along the same lines. Eee-PC.de found an Eee PC T91 display unit running Windows 7 software that had a multi-touch panel (see the video after the break).
I find it hard to believe that the T91 that will start to ship this month will come with a multi-touch panel. The specs listed on the official product page, specifically talks of a resistive rather than capacitive display. Asus may have a premium T91 SKU planned with multi-touch capability to tie in with the launch Windows 7. The only thing I can think of is that Asus has enabled multi-touch on a resistive panel, which is possibility.
Update: JKKMobile also has a video demonstrating the multi-touch features of the Eee PC T91. Apparently, he has confirmation that only the Windows 7 SKU will ship with a multi-touch panel. See this video also after the break. Read more
Asus Eee PC T91 gets official launch & live product page
June 3, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Asus has officially launched the Eee PC T91 convertible netbook at Computex this week. This is the first netbook from the company that comes with a swivelable touchscreen, but with Windows 7 on the horizon you wouldn’t bet it being the last. The Eee PC T91 comes with an 8.9-inch touchscreen that can be folded back to be used as a tablet or in a traditional netbook form factor. The product page is also now live too, giving us confirmation of the T91’s finalised specifications.
The Eee PC T91 has an extremely slim-line design, weighing just 960g and measuring 28.4mm at its thickest point. The 8.9-inch resistive touchscreen is powered by the Z520 Atom CPU and 1GB RAM. The listing for the storage is a tad confusing and reads “16GB Solid State Drive + 16GB SD Card + 30GB Portable Hard Disk Drive + 20GB Eee Storage”. Whilst the first and last points are self-explanatory, I do wonder whether Asus will be including a 16GB SD card and 30GB portable HDD in the package too. Read more
Video: Asus Eee PC T91 touchscreen interface demonstrated
May 25, 2009 at 11:13 am
As May draws to a close, it now looks like the Asus Eee PC T91 will hit the UK next month. A number of previews of the 8.9-inch convertible tablet have cropped up in the last few weeks, however most of them haven’t been able to detail the touchscreen modes due to them having pre-production samples.
The video below now shows the final graphical interface in all of its glory. Clicking the Eee Docking bar at the top of the screen launches into the Easy Mode. Here, you can move between your favourite applications in a turn-wheel motion. Another rank has shortcuts which you can change by simply dragging and dropping. A simple swipe of the screen to the left or right will move you between widget or Windows modes.
In the touch mode there is a virtual keyboard which can be adjusted in size and placed wherever you want. There are also memo notes which can be pinned onto the desktop. The FotoFun application can be used to create a photo book and pictures can be rotated and zoomed in just with your touch. It all looks quite smooth but I wonder how it will work out in practice. Check out the videos after the break (the first is the interface only and the second has a talk over of the same video). The Asus Eee PC T91 is expected to cost £449 when it launches in the next few weeks. Read more
Asus Eee PC T91 manual exposed plus hands-on impressions
May 18, 2009 at 6:03 pm
The Asus Eee PC T91 netbook has hit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and they have left some juicy titbits for us to gander at. As well publishing a number of external and internal photos of the T91 being tested, they have also revealed the T91 manual.
In the documents, we get confirmation of the non-removable battery, which we already knew from recent previews. It does seem that RAM is upgradeable though with an access panel at the bottom of the lid. It also looks like the GPS board can be swapped out for a combo GPS and 3G board, giving you internal 3G. There also seems to be dual SD card slots, one of them being a “Disk-expander Slot”. Read more
First Asus Eee PC T91 review hits the web
May 14, 2009 at 11:26 am
TechRadar has this morning released the first review of the much anticipated Asus Eee PC T91 netbook. The 8.9-inch convertible tablet is probably one of our most eagerly awaited netbooks and judging by the review, it won’t disappoint. TechRadar says that the T91 “genuinely moves things forward” in the netbook space and the only factor that could hinder its success will be its price. They also confirmed that the T91 is expected to launch at the beginning of June.
It’s worth noting that the review was based on a pre-production sample so there may be a few differences come the final retail release. This is probably the reason that they found the Asus Easy Mode touch interface still needing a bit of polishing. Other than that, the T91 was found to have a comfortable keyboard, an excellent touchscreen display as well as a reasonable battery life of over 3 hours.
Unfortunately, it looks like the T91 is taking a leaf out of the 1008HA’s book by having a non-removable battery. The touchscreen display also means that fingerprint smudges are something you just have to get used to. The Asus Eee PC T91 is expected to hit the UK at a £449 price point. This is certainly not cheap, but the T91 is placed in a unique position with few competitors. TechRadar awarded the T91 an impressive four and a half stars. Check out the key review points after the jump. Read more
Asus Eee PC T91 netbook UK pricing revealed
May 8, 2009 at 2:28 pm
The Asus Eee PC T91 convertible tablet is expected to have a suggested retail cost of £449 when it launches in the UK. We are expecting the T91 to launch in late May or early June, although no specific date has been set thus far.
The Eee PC T91 is an 8.9-inch touchscreen convertible netbook, similar in form factor to Gigabyte’s 10-inch T1028 netbook. As far as we are aware, the model released will not be the 3G equipped T91GO, but just the standard version.
The T91 will come with an 8.9-inch (1024 x 600) touchscreen display powered by a 1.33GHz Z520 Intel Atom CPU. Storage will be catered by a 32GB SSD and optional extras include GPS, 3G and a TV tuner. As well as Windows XP, it will also come with Asus’ Easy Mode software to be used in tablet mode. The final specs may be subject to change, but we’ll come back to you with confirmation as soon as we have it.

Another hands-on video with the Asus Eee PC T91
April 16, 2009 at 5:54 pm
We have already a posted a number of hands-on posts of the Asus Eee PC T91 netbook, but thought we’d share Cnet UK’s experience given some new titbits of information. They have posted a video hands-on with a pre-production sample of the 8.9-inch convertible tablet. The interface is shown much more clearly than the previous video we highlighted.
What may put some people off is that apparently the Asus Eee PC T91 will come with a sealed battery, so if anything goes wrong with it you’ll have to send it back to Asus to replace. The keyboard is also likely to be bigger in the final retail model, most likely at the expense of the trackpad as the keyboard already appears to stretch to the end of the chassis.
Other than that, one thing that has always worried me about such a device is how smudgy the touch screen will look when exposed to fingerprints. One particular shot towards the end of the video highlights how unattractive it can look with greasy fingerprints all over. Check out the video for yourself after the break. Read more
Asus Eee PC T91 net tablet passes FCC
April 4, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Asus upcoming 8.9-inch convertible tablet netbook, the Eee PC T91, has passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). From the official e-filing page there doesn’t seem to be too much information there with just two photos from the documents that I could see. There also seems to be no manual attached either. There is no confirmation as to when this will appear in the US or for what price. According to UK Asus PR, the T91 is expected to appear in the UK in late May/early June for approximately £500.
The Asus T91 features an 8.9-inch (1024 x 600) LED backlit display, 1.33GHz Z520 CPU and 1GB RAM. As well as Windows XP, it will also come with Asus’ Easy Mode software to be used in tablet mode.

Hands on photos of the Asus Eee PC T91 netbook
March 30, 2009 at 7:23 pm
We have already posted a number of videos and photos of Asus’ upcoming 8.9-inch convertible tablet, however given its sleek looks we still can’t get enough. This time round, Cnet UK managed to go hands on with the Eee PC T91 and after an extended play with the device, they came away very impressed and even in love.
Something we haven’t picked up before is that the T91 carries an inscription on the silver panel towards the top of the T91. The inscription reads “Eee PC Touch Series” highlighting the fact that this will not be the only touch-based model from Asus. Hardly a surprise but it’s nice to have the confirmation.
Asus also told Cnet that the keyboard seen in these photos is expected to get bigger for the final retail release. Given that they found the keyboard a little cramped this can only be a good thing, although this is likely to come at the expense of a smaller touchpad.
Whilst we love the design of all of the upcoming convertible tablets, we can’t help to think that in just 6-9 months time there will be similar units with multi-touch screens running Windows 7. However, you can’t wait forever for new technology otherwise you’d never buy anything, The T91 is expected to launch in late May/early June in the UK with a price tag of around £500. Video: Asus Eee PC T91 tablet hands on
March 27, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Pocket-Lint has posted a hands-on demonstration of the Asus Eee PC T91. A quick swipe of the touchscreen from right to left appears to toggle the OS between a Linux based kernel and Windows XP. The Linux kernel is likely to be very similar to the ‘Easy Mode’ used on Asus’ EeeTop products with access to weather, Firefox etc. Encouragingly the screen does not auto-rotate either, which could be a problem is using it on the move.
The T91 is an 8.9-inch convertible tablet powered by a 1.33GHz Z520 Intel Atom CPU. It will come with a 32GB SSD and optional extras including GPS, 3G and a TV tuner. Pricing has not been confirmed but is expected to be between $499 to $ 549 (c£500) on release. The T91 is expected to have an April/May release. Check out the video after the break. Read more
Asus Eee PC T101H – Video hands on
March 18, 2009 at 10:14 am
Whilst CeBIT may have come and gone, JKKMobile finally got around to posting a hands-on demonstration of the Asus Eee PC T101H. The Asus T101H is a convertible tablet in similar vein to the 8.9-inch T91 but supports a 10-inch (1024 x 600) screen instead. The T101H also has a faster CPU in the form of a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 CPU compared to the 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 CPU found in the T91.
This bigger size also brings a bigger keyboard and an Elantech multi-touch touchpad, which has more features than the Synaptics touchpad found on the T91. Check out the video after the jump, which also includes a size comparison to the T91. Read more
