Asus Eee PC 1001PQ netbook for kids

March 1, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Asus Eee PC 1001PQA new netbook from Asus targeted towards kids has been spotted on the show floor at CeBIT. The Asus Eee PC 1001PQ will arrive in two colours, yellow with a black stripe down the middle and an all-black model. A strange decision on the colours, certainly not bright and colourful as one would expect. It’s perhaps being targeted to an older child compared to the previous Disney netbooks Asus released.

Don’t expect miracles under the hood, this is your basic specced netbook including10.1-inch (1024 x 600) display powered by a 1.66GHz N450 Atom processor, 1GB RAM and a 160GB HDD. The operating system is likely to be a kiddie-customised version of Windows XP. Read more

Asus Eee PC T101MT unboxed and first impressions [Video]

February 25, 2010 at 10:26 pm

Asus Eee PC T101MTThe 10-inch Asus PC T101MT convertible netbook is not even officially released yet, but the folks at NetbookLive have already got hold of one and documented their initial impressions as well as treating us to some unboxing pics. The version they are playing with comes with a 1.66GHz N450 Atom processor, 2GB RAM and a 320GB HDD. First thoughts on the resistive multitouch display is that the response is slightly poor, however further testing is needed. A full review is expected in the next few days.

AllTouchTablet also has some initial impressions on the Eee PC T101MT. Build quality seems strong and the chiclet keyboard has little flex. They also talked of a lack of precision on the touchscreen, mainly at the edges. Performance was also found to be sluggish. Check out a couple of hands on videos from them after the jump. Read more

February 25, 2010 at 3:32 pm

Asus Eee PC 1001P reviewed – a fine budget netbook

February 19, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Asus Eee PC 1001PThe Asus Eee PC 1001P is the company’s budget-targeted Pine Trail netbook. This $299 model follows in the Seashell design of previous Eee PC netbooks and looks similar to the Eee PC 1005PE-P. The 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) netbook is powered by a 1.66GHz N450 Pineview processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD and comes with Windows 7 Starter.

Laptop Mag put the 1001P through its paces and liked what they saw. Some of the highlights include a textured matte lid that avoids any fingerprint mess, a comfortable keyboard, long battery life (over 8 hours) and a bargain price. The find little not to like at this price point but picked on its single touchpad mouse button and smaller hard drive (although 160GB was the norm before Pine Trail came along!) You can check out the full review here.

February 11, 2010 at 5:37 pm

Asus Eee PC T101MTThe 10-inch Asus Eee PC T101MT convertible netbook may getting ever closer to its release. We recently saw a video overview of the user interface direct from Asus itself and now Amazon Germany has the device up for pre-order.

Some of the specs are incorrect (i.e. 12.1-inch display) and there’s no release date, but the listing points to the fact that it can’t be too far away. The rest of the specs appear to be right and includes a 1.66GHz N450 Atom, 2GB RAM, a 320GB HDD and W7 Home Premium. Amazon.de has it listed for €499.00. Read more

Asus to reveal “killer product” in June

February 10, 2010 at 6:21 pm

Asus Eee PadAsus Chairman Jonney Shih has said that the company is prepping a “killer product” for launch in June, probably during the Computex show in Taiwan. Whilst he didn’t give any further hints, the most likely reference is to its tablet device (dubbed Eee Pad) that is will sport the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset.

The Eee Pad was first spotted at CES 2010, although no specs were detailed. It was simply referred to as the “Asus Tablet Concept” along with a placeholder saying that it is powered by a Nvidia Tegra chip. The news came as Asus announced it will be spinning off its Pegatron manufacturing arm. The device is said to be manufactured by Pegatron and be launched at a sub-$500 price point. If true, Apple iPad may have some stiff competition in the second half of this year.

Asus Eee PC T101MT interface gets video walkthrough

February 9, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Asus Eee PC T101MTThe 10-inch Asus Eee PC T101MT is a mysterious machine, it first made an appearance at CES in 2009 but it still hasn’t been released. Recently, it passed through the FCC and even made an appearance once again at CES 2010 but we’re still no closer to getting any official launch details.

It may not to be too long to wait, however, as Asus has released a video tutorial of the user interface. It shows off some of the software applications including touching up photos, creating photo albums and leaving handwritten desktop memos. I didn’t notice any real differences to that used in the 8.9-inch T91MT. Whilst we continue to wait for the T101MT to show up you can check out the video after the jump. Read more

Asus Eee PC 1201T reviewed – subpar battery life

February 8, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Asus Eee PC 1201T Asus is certainly making the most out of its 12.1-inch netbook chassis. It currently has four netbooks sporting 12.1-inch (1366 x 768) displays. This includes the dual-core ION 1201N, the single-core ION 1201NL, the Z-series Atom 1201HA and finally the AMD Congo powered 1201T.

The guys over at Yugatech have tested the Eee PC 1201T. Whilst they liked the Seashell design, chiclet keyboard, crisp display and touchpad, they found it hard to get excited about its poor battery life and only slightly above-average CPU performance. Read more

ASUS Eee PC 1008P tested – great design, poor battery life

February 8, 2010 at 10:36 am

ASUS Eee PC 1008PThe Asus Eee PC 1008P-KR edition certainly looks different to most other netbooks out there. It marries the slim chassis of the previous generation 1008HA Seashell netbook with Karim Rashid’s exterior design influences.

Engadget put the Eee PC 1008P through its paces and found that it suffered from “performance issues at the expense of better design.” There’s no denying that the netbook is attractive and should appeal to the fashionistas out there, the brown model in particular. However, given its $499 price point, it offers less battery life than its cheaper peers including the Eee PC 1005PE. The model tested comes with a 1.66GHz N450 Atom processor, 2GB RAM and a 320GB HDD. Read more

Asus Eee PC 1005PE-H spotted in France with spec boost

February 8, 2010 at 9:07 am

Asus Eee PC 1005PEAsus is prepping a revision of the Eee PC 1005PE netbook that will come with some improved specs. The 1005PE-H will come with 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD and Windows 7 Premium instead of 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD and W7 Starter found on the original.

Apart from that the rest of the specs are the same, including the 1.66GHz N450 Atom processor, 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) display, 6-cell 4400mAh battery, Wi-Fi (b/g/n) and Bluetooth. French retailer Fnac has it listed for €349 (€50 more expensive than the original), but there are no signs so far whether this will hit other regions.

Asus Eee PC 1008P shipping with two batteries?

February 4, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Asus Eee PC 1008PThe Asus Eee PC 1008P-KR (Karim Rashid) netbook may be shipping with two batteries in parts of mainland Europe. The 1008P has been spotted as sporting two 3-cell 2900mAh batteries in Italian retailer Asus World.

This means buyers will get a quoted battery time of 12 hours (6 hours per battery). This hasn’t been confirmed yet so I’d take the news with a pinch of salt for now, but it’s great news for consumers if true. The Eee PC 1008P is available in the UK right now in low quantities for around the £340 mark.

Update: It looks like it is true, check the comments below (thanks Steffen and Stefano!)

Asus prepping ION 2 powered Eee PC netbook for April?

January 22, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Nvidia ION 2We still don’t know exactly how Nvidia plans to introduce its ‘next-generation’ ION chipset/GPU into Pine Trail netbooks, but despite that Digitimes is reporting that Asus is planning an ION 2 powered Eee PC to launch in April.

The report goes on to say that Pine Trail netbooks should drop in price by the end of the second quarter as N270/N280 Atom-based netbooks fall out of the market. It also said that the Eee PC T101 touchscreen netbook will launch in February.

Asus Eee PC T101MT specs unearthed

January 9, 2010 at 8:01 pm

Asus Eee PC T101MTThe Asus Eee PC T101MT convertible netbook was first spotted passing through the FCC a few weeks back, and it was again on show at CES. The 10-inch version of the 8.9” Eee PC T91MT has been due to launch for the best part of the year, but its appearance hopefully means we will see it hit retail shelves in 2010.

The MT stands for multi-touch, although strangely Asus has opted for a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) resistive panel, rather than capacitive. This means you need to exert a little pressure on the screen to get pinching to work. Asus has bundled a stylus and handwriting software into the package to make the most of its tablet features. January 9, 2010 at 5:37 pm

Rather than creating a post for every single one, we’ve summarised each below and attached any relevant videos. December 22, 2009 at 6:04 pm

Asus Eee PC T101Asus’ 10-inch convertible netbook has been on the cards for a while now and it looks like they may finally be getting around to launch it. The Asus Eee PC T101MT convertible tablet has passed through the FCC, pointing to the fact that it will launch with a multi-touch display (much like the 8.9-inch Eee PC T91MT).

The FCC filings do not reveal too much information apart from the product label and a picture of the back. Click through for these pictures. Hopefully we’ll hear more at CES 2010 in January. Read more
